  1. In 1982, Bonnie decided to leave Cham-
  2. paign, Illinois, and go to Europe to train for
  3. the Olympics. There was only one thing
  4. standing in her way: money. She didnΓÇÖt

  7. Bonnie needed $7,000 to make the trip. She
  8. tried to raise the money by asking local
  9. businesses to sponsor her. It didnΓÇÖt work.
  10. But a local policeman heard about her
  11. problem and got the PolicemenΓÇÖs
  12. Benevolent Association (PBA) involved. The
  13. police held bake sales, candy drives, and
  14. even sold bumper stickers to raise money
  15. for BonnieΓÇÖs trip. The bumper stickers called
  16. Bonnie "Champaign Policemen's Favorite
  17. Speeder."
